Caleb Cavanaugh

Owner/Chief Instructor
3rd Degree Black Belt

Caleb began his martial arts training at age 9 and has stuck with it ever since. He began assisting classes at a young age and was promoted to Jr. Instructor at age 13. When he was 15, Caleb was promoted to full black belt and made the Lead Instructor at the dojo he trained and worked at.

  • In 2015, Caleb took a short break from teaching full time when he joined the Connecticut Air National Guard, as an Emergency Manager, however he still trained and taught friends informally to keep his skills sharp.
  • In 2016, Caleb returned back to Connecticut and began teaching and training regularly again.
  • In December of 2016, at the age of 20, Caleb opened Inner Strength Martial Arts.
  • In October of 2017 was promoted to 3rd Degree Black Belt under his instructor, Mr. Tom LoVarco (8th Degree Black Belt) and the Worldwide Kenpo Karate Association.

Caleb is known for producing high quality students, while keeping classes both informative and a lot of fun. Caleb has trained extensively in American Kenpo Karate; he has also trained in Shotokan Karate, Krav Maga, Modern Arnis, and Military Combatives. Caleb continues to learn and incorporate new material into his lessons.


Senior Instructor
2nd Degree Black Belt

Kevin is a 2nd degree black belt in American Kenpo Karate and a Senior Instructor at Inner Strength Martial Arts. He received his black belt in 2012 and has been teaching since before that. Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge having served in the United States Navy, competed as an Amateur Full Contact Kickboxer, in addition to his American Kenpo background. Mr. Kevin is a very dedicated instructor and teaches the teens and adults at Inner Strength Martial Arts.

Erick Northam

Black Belt

Mr. Erick started his Martial Arts journey in 1992 training in Judo at the local YMCA. After a couple of years, his uncle introduced him to the American Kenpo Karate system and became his mentor. Mr. Erick began teaching as leadership and became an assistant instructor in 2001 and has been teaching classes ever since. Over the past 26 years Erick has trained in several Martial Arts including Krav-Maga, Kickboxing, Modern Arnis and Mixed Martial Arts. Mr. Erick joined the team at Inner Strength Martial Arts in February 2017. In December 2017 he earned his Blackbelt under the leadership of Mr. Caleb Cavanaugh. Mr. Erick enjoys working with students of all levels of experience. He is passionate about working with children who have special needs and helping them be successful in their training.
